Description
An exceptionally tough but pretty North American native perennial that the Monarch butterflies and numerous other beneficial pollinators will thank you for planting, Asclepias verticillata, commonly known as White Whorled Milkweed, is an upright growing plant that will spread to form a colony, even in dry, poor soils. From mid summer through early fall it features abundant clusters of pretty white flowers formed on tall stems to 3 feet high that are clothed in umbrella-like whorls of needle-like green leaves. The plants are very vigorous and deep rooted so are highly drought tolerant when established. Plant several and they will form a colony or drift in sunny woodland borders and wildflower gardens. Excellent for dry and difficult sites where not much else will grow. You might be happy to know that deer and rabbits turn their noses up to this one.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 3 feet tall and equally as wide, the White Whorled Milkweed is ideal for use in difficult and dry sites such as sunny woodland borders, wildflower gardens and on embankments. In the wild you might see it growing on the side of the road or along railroad tracks. and perennial borders. A fine addition to butterfly and beneficial pollinator gardens, native plant gardens, prairie and meadow gardens, cottage gardens, and white theme gardens.
Suggested Spacing:Â 24 inches apart for mass plantings

Growing Preferences
White Whorled Milkweed is exceptionally easy to grow and care for. It grows best in a well-drained to dry soil of average to poor fertility and full sun to part shade. We suggest at least 5 hours of direct sunlight per day. Too much shade and flowering will be diminished. Plant with the top of the root ball even with ground level. Care and maintenance are minimal to none.

It has bloomed in a sheltered spot on our frontal dune just in time for the monarch butterfly migration that follows the coastline south at this time of year. I plan to plant more milkweed plants in the spring if it survives the winter!——————————————————–We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the awesome review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
